What do you do if you want to upgrade your kitchen and you only have a budget of $1,000 to do it? Here are some tips for you on upgrading your kitchen on a budget. Of course, these rates are all predicated on your ability to install them yourself.

Kitchen Faucet

First, think about getting a new faucet for your sink. For less than $250, there are many styles to choose from that will enhance the look of the sink area. If you want to add another $50 to that, you can add a water filtration system. It’s one of those areas that people’s eyes are immediately drawn to because it’s shiny, so sprucing that area up will make your kitchen look great. Plus, you can buy a faucet set that can save water, thereby making your water usage more efficient.

Kitchen Floor

Next, why not think about changing your flooring. You can go with either vinyl or linoleum, which will run you anywhere between $2 and $5 per square foot. Since most kitchens are around 10’x10’, it will cost you somewhere between $200 and $500 dollars. You don’t need the best unless it’s your preference, but get something that you think fits your style and comfort level.

Kitchen Paint

Of course, before you do that, think about painting your kitchen also. This is relatively inexpensive, costing less than $50 if you do it yourself, and can change the entire mood of the kitchen. It doesn’t matter if you make it dark or light, just make sure it highlights some of the other items in your kitchen well. But this gives you the chance to match your floor coloring with however you’ve going to color your walls.

Paint Cabinets

And while we’re coloring things, take a look at your cabinets. Instead of replacing them, why not change the color of the cabinets, and while you’re at it, change the handles or knobs on them? If you have dark walls, get light cabinets, and vice-versa. Removing paint costs nothing, if you have a heat scraper and buying paint, as mentioned above, doesn’t cost a lot of money. You can even decide to stain, varnish, or lacquer your cabinets instead. Don’t forget the lower cabinets and drawers also when you’re looking at making these types of changes.

Kitchen Island

Think about buying a small island if you don’t already have one in your kitchen. You can purchase one that’s about 3 feet high and maybe 4 square feet or so in circumference and it’s not only a nice addition to your kitchen, but gives you another surface to either work on or display items on.

Kitchen Accessories

At this point, if you went with high end vinyl or linoleum you might not have much money left, but if you went with something more moderate you should think about changing some of your accessories to match your new kitchen. Microwave ovens only go around $100 or less, and adding a knife block or cutting boards doesn’t cost all that much money, plus it adds style. Think about adding large glass containers that have some style to them and then put some of your seasonings or things like rice or pasta in them. Make some of your foods a part of your rooms décor.

If you’ve budgeted your money well, you will not only stay under budget, but have a kitchen with a new style and purpose that you will be proud of.
